Pancake motors are also known as printed armature motors, or servo disc motors.
The motors in this section are fundamentally different in terms of design architecture compared to a typical DC motor, they are much more than just a ‘flat-form-factor’ DC motor and suit highly dynamic applications. These motors from PMW Dynamics have a unique slotless disc armature design with a very flat geometry - hence the descriptive name. PWM also offer more conventional BLDC and servo motors, details of which can be found in the relevant sections of the website.
Pancake motors have very low inertia and are typically used for applications requiring super-quick starts and stops as they can achieve maximum rpm in well under than one complete revolution. Their inherent design means they are extremely smooth running at all speeds with zero cogging. It should be considered that special power electronics is required to drive these types of motors.
