Rocket Round Leicester is a spectacular public art event that will blast its way across the city for 10 weeks in summer 2021. It’s being brought to the city by Wild in Art and LOROS, the fantastic hospice charity.
OEM Automatic, has been supporting LOROS for over three years and are delighted to be involved.
“OEM Automatic is really proud to announce that we are sponsoring a Rocket for the LOROS Rocket Round public art event,” Richard Armstrong, Managing Director, said today.
Forty giant and spectacular Rocket sculptures are aimed at bringing Leicester together as a community, along with raising money and awareness for the charity. The Rockets will form a stunning, free, art trail through the city’s streets and open spaces, bringing people together for an unforgettable, out-of-this-world event. It will be the biggest public art event that Leicester has ever seen!
LOROS is inviting people of all ages to join in the Rocket Round fun! Each Rocket will be placed somewhere secret within the city centre and your task is to find them all. Each Rocket is being sponsored by local companies, like OEM Automatic, who have worked with artists – either well-known or just starting out – to design and create each one.
“We’re working alongside local artist Helen Sibson who’s designed a Rocket to highlight how amazingly diverse Leicester and its inhabitants are. Without giving too much away, the design captures Leicester’s vibrant, colourful and diverse side and we are really excited to see this beautiful work of art come alive,” said Richard.
"The OEM Automatic offices have wraparound gardens with plants and trees, and you’ll often see staff watching the wildlife from the large open office windows. We were drawn to Helen's design because it reminded us of our office view, and how lucky we are to live and work in such a fantastic, diverse city with all its people and wildlife," he added.
Take the leap with us and help us reach the stars! The trail opens on Monday 19th July – before blasting off on Sunday 26th September 2021. Then there will be the chance to say a final ‘goodbye’ at a Farewell Event, before each Rocket is auctioned to raise funds for LOROS Hospice to enable them to continue to care for over 2,500 terminally ill local people.
